At Williams we use Reading Street and Fundations as our core literacy programs. Reading Street is aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Through the use of weekly selection stories students are taught phonemic awareness skills, phonics concepts, writing and conventions, vocabulary, high frequency words, fluency, comprehension skills and strategies, and listening and speaking skills. Fundations is the program that Williams uses to teach phonics and spelling skills. Through explicit instruction and multi-sensory activities students are taught specific phonics rules to help them master spelling.
